A little StarLight Photography

With all the hopes of seeing the aurora borealis over Renton last night, I thought I would try my luck at a little starlight photography, so to speak. Taking pictures at night can be tricky, especially when you are trying to take pictures of astronomical events. Unfortunately, the aurora borealis never appeared. Probably because of the light pollution coming from Seattle, Bellevue, and Renton, and maybe a bright and almost full moon had something to do with it. But the night was not a total loss, because I started to figure out how to use my DSLR camera to shoot the stars. Continue reading

A very cool play of light and shadow

I was on the Microsoft Campus in Redmond this week interviewing for a job, and I saw this design, actually, I am not sure what you call this style of art.  I have never seen anything quite like this, something that uses light and shadow and objects of different size or dimension to create a shadow sculpture.  What does it say to me? I see letters and numbers scattered on a wall, but in the mind of a human being, they make everything that defines us.

I would like to know who the artist is. If anyone knows, let me know! 😉

Alki Point Pictures

When the weather is nice in Seattle, we tend to wake up from our winter slumber and spring out to do something outdoors. My thing is to load up my bike with my camera kit and head out to different areas and take pictures. There are so many cool places to take pictures in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, it would take years to cover them all. This weekend, I headed out to Alki Point, over by West… Continue reading

This gallery contains 8 photos.

My daughter and I went bike riding yesterday around Greenlake. After which, we headed up to Queen Anne to find Kerry Park, which is a beautiful vantage point for taking pictures of Seattle and the bay. The picture below is a panoramic stitched together from pictures we shot from Kerry Park. Continue reading

Road Trip to California

From time to time, the company I work for will send me out on projects for our clients. Up to now, all the locations I have been sent to have been in the state of Washington. This time however, I was asked to drive down to Oregon to pick up some equipment and take it to southern California.

To me, it sounded like a perfect opportunity to take some pictures, so I happily accepted. One thing I always bring with me on these assignments is my camera kit, a Sony DSLR and a few nice  … Continue reading

Turning an ordinary photograph into a work of art

I have two daughters, and I love them both dearly, but I rarely have the opportunity to spend time with them together. This last Father’s day was one of those rare moments, and I wanted to make sure I captured to moment in picture. Unfortunately, while iHop makes great pancakes and omelets, they are not exactly a suitable environment for taking pictures.  On to Photoshop!

I always take pictures in the highest resolution in case I want to crop the image, but still have something I can set up for printing in 5 by 7… Continue reading
