Computer Donation Program
King County, Washington
2003-Present

In 2003 I developed a project where I would take donated computers and refurbish them and find homes for them with school age children of low-income families. Since the early 1990's when elementary, junior-high, and high schools started mainstreaming their use of computers in the classrooms, children have needed to develop strong user skills in order to succeed. Today, middle class and upper class families often have computers in their homes specifically for their school aged children. While low income families are not always able to provide their children with the advantage of a computer in the home, the opportunities for success for these children become smaller and smaller and these children start falling behind.

Cotton Jubilee
Greenville, Texas

2000 –2002

I served two years on the planning committee for Greenville’s biggest annual event, the Cotton Jubilee. The Cotton Jubilee took months to plan for and brought an amazing number of visitors to Greenville for the three-day event. I believe the number of spectators was anywhere from 10 to 25 thousand annually. I served as the grounds chair for both years. However, I had to resign my chair in 2002 because my family and I were moving to Washington.
My duties as grounds chair were as follows:

  • Event planning and grounds layout.
  • Coordinating setup crews, grounds crews, staging and spectator area setup, and cleanup crews.
  • Secure donations of goods, services, and money from businesses and organizations in Greenville.

2000 - 2001

I served two years on the planning committee for the annual Independence Day celebration for Hunt County, Texas. The Red, White, and Greenville celebration is an all-day event that attracts 15 to 25 thousand spectators.
As a member of the planning committee, I performed the following functions:

  • Organized and budgeted events for children and families
  • Sought out volunteer services and donations from businesses throughout the county.
  • Coordinated setup and cleanup crews
  • Planned and setup grounds for events and fireworks.
  • Assisted the Greenville Police and Hunt County Sheriff’s departments in providing security patrols throughout the events.
