Computer Donation

This page is currently under development

I am so excited about this project. It's one of my ultimate favorites. The computer donation program is a small program that I started when OBrienPC was a business providing onsite technical services in Texas. Companies started donating their old computers to us as they were replaced, and we would go through and wipe the drives and refurbish the computers. I would find low-income families through church services or local agencies to donate complete and working computer systems to.

I specifically chose low-income families with school-aged children because it is these children have the greatest dissadvantage. I believe that every child has a right to a decent education, and equal opportunity to success. Sadly, there are kids who are at a dissadvantage simply because they don't have access to a computer outside of the classroom in which to do their research and homework. Computers are used heavily in schools these days; in computer labs and in homes researching projects and doing homework. Kids with access to computers are quickly developing the advanced computer skills that employers are demanding in most jobs, while disadvantaged kids fall further behind the curve. You see where this is going, right? Well, it seems to me that the most obvious thing for me to do is to use my skills and talent to help turn that curve around.

I am currently in the planning phase. I no longer have my shop, so I need to find a suitable location to store, service, and dispatch the donated computers. Also, I think the laws have changed a bit, so I need to brush up on that. When all is said and done, donating your computer will be as easy as making a phone call. I'll even come out and pick the system up.

As this is the anchor page for the Computer Donations Page, this will also be where you can come and get updates on my progress. I invite your comments and suggestions too. I recommend that you add this page to your Bookmarks or Favorites. That way you will be one click away from any updates.
